House Cats Large Lap Quilt (62” x 72”)
Patience and organization will be the keys to success in this scrappy creation using the small cat panel from Gingiber’s Catnip line for Moda Fabrics. Label the pieces as you cut to simplify gathering them for each individual block. The strip blocks are harder to explain than they are to make, so don’t let them scare you! HhQ7406

Hedgehog Quilts Watercolor Birds Wall Quilt (60” x 60”)
This is one of my favorite designs for highlighting truly special panel squares. These wonderful water-color birds by Connie Haley for 3 Wishes Fabrics fit this pattern perfectly. Directions for my favorite mitered border technique are included as well. HhQ7442

Labrador Puppies (59” x 67”)
One of the most popular breeds in America, few dog lovers can resist labrador puppies. This quilt began with the Labradorable line from Quilting Treasures, featuring the artwork of Jerry Gadamus. The blocks are framed and set with a rambling line of flying geese. Careful cutting creates the look of continuous plank decking behind the blocks. Full of cutting, block and layout diagrams, this pattern is great for the advanced beginning quilter. HhQ7362

Hedgehog QuiltsSCORE! Football (48” x 60”) Update!
This is a great lap quilt for the football fanatic in your life. Each block is quilted separately and then sewn together with the raggedy technique. No layering or basting big pieces and no last minute struggles to get it quilted. In just a few evenings and a weekend or two, you will have a gift quilt ready to wrap! HhQ7429

Hedgehog Quilts SCORE! Soccer (48” x 60”)
Make this great lap quilt for the soccer fan in your life. Each block is quilted separately and then sewn together with the raggedy technique. No layering or basting big pieces and no last minute struggles to get it quilted. In just a few evenings and a weekend or two, you will have a gift quilt ready to wrap!
While flannel is the standard for raggy quilts, don’t limit yourself to flannel only. For best results, use fabrics with good color on the wrong side, such as yarn-dyed flannel or Moda’s “Grunge” line which we used on our model. HhQ7433

Hedgehog QuiltsForest Edge (62” x 66”)
This contemporary design begins with the 8-block “Thicket” panel from Moda Fabrics. The pieced blocks are made one at a time. Each block is sewn and then trimmed to size, varying the placement of the center tumbler. The frames are added and the blocks are trimmed again, varying the width of the frames. Although flanges are typically left loose, I chose to topstitch the flange folds to the block and again at the binding, using a variegated thread. I still get the pop of color I want without the challenge of keeping the flange flat when I quilt. The pattern includes a practice exercise to improve your 1/4” seams for accurate sewing and tips to measure for well-behaved borders. HhQ 7432

Hedgehog QuiltsThe Cowboy Way (84” x 84”)
This is the quilt you want to make for that special person in your life who loves the old West. Exclusively Quilters combined soft blues, tans and brown to bring this collection to life. This design makes the most of any fabric line with a panel, repeating stripe and a large scenic print. Fussy-cutting the repeating stripe creates the illusion of multiple borders. We used left-over fabric after the quilt top was finished to piece a strip 13” x 93” to insert into the backing. It’s a great look that saves fabric! The pattern contains clear graphics, tips for Well-behaved borders and a 1/4” seam practice. HhQ7434

Hedgehog Quilts I Love Wisconsin!, a 2017 Shop Hop Quilt pattern (60” x 68”)

Hedgehog Quilts Hedgehog Quilts Tuxedo (60” x 78”)
Choose an accent color for the tiny cornerstones and narrow flange to bring these wonderful black and white prints to life. We made our model with taupe accents for an elegant look but bright fabrics like fuchsia or taxi yellow will make the accents pop. The unique construction of the large second border cornerstones make the black and white blocks appear to float and yet, continue the chain effect of the tiny cornerstones. The pattern contains clear graphics, a scant 1/4 inch seam allowance practice and tips to get well-behaved borders every time. It is a great project for practicing the design technique of sashing and cornerstones! HhQ7393

Hedgehog Quilts Horse Sense  (52” x 62”)

Pedigree Puppies (49” x 49”)
Make this simple puppy quilt for the dog lover in your life! Exclusively Quilters’ artists have made these little faces so realistic that you’ll want to reach out and pet them! The puppy portrait blocks are framed in black, then combined with the packed puppy squares and sashed with dog bones. Choose the blue plaid or brown plaid for the outer mitered border to suit your taste. We used gray for the cornerstone accents with the blue plaid and gold for the cornerstone accents with the brown plaid. The pattern contains great graphics to help you along the way, including a scant 1/4" seam allowance practice, tips for well-behaved borders and a guide to mitering the outer border. It’s an ideal project for skills from strong beginner to master quilter. HhQ7354

Hedgehog Quilts Patterns for Quilts Farm Friends (49” x 61”)   Update!
The Apple Hill Farm fabrics by Kids Quilts for RJR were the inspiration for this bright, happy quilt. We fussy-cut different scenes from the farm print for the center squares of the log cabin-style blocks. Use the cutting chart and layout guide in the pattern to replicate the cover quilt or choose your own color combinations.
Any child-friendly fabics will work with this pattern. Twenty blocks in a 4 x5 layout will replace the panel squares. Then just add one border and you’re done! The pattern includes a scant 1/4” seam practice, making this a great beginner-friendly project. HhQ7392

Hedgehog Quilts Patterns for Quilts Jungle Bright (52" x 68")
Make this easy-peasy play quilt to keep your little one fascinated, no matter what the age. The bright colors and fun animals are by Susan Marsh for RJR Fabrics. We fussy-cut the animal squares and the first border for simple sewing with impressive results. Any bright fabric line will work well with this design, especially if lots of geometric shapes are included. We added folded corners to the alternate blocks for additional dimension and texture for those little fingers. HhQ7386

Hedgehog Quilts Patterns for Quilts Winter Visitors (51" x 65")
The peaceful and elegant Winter Garden design by Susan Winget was the inspiration for this large lap or wall quilt. You’ll be able to display this quilt throughout the winter, long after the holidays are over. Paper-piecing helps control the bias edges of the diamond border. Rated as intermediate because of the need to match multiple points, careful sewing will make this a great project for a strong beginner with basic paper-piecing skills. HhQ7381

70 x 82 with 2nd border62 x 74 with single border Round Churn Dash
(70” x 82” with 2nd border/picture on the left
OR 62” x 74” with single border/picture on the right)
This scrappy quilt gives the look of curves without curved piecing by combining two traditional block designs into one. We started with the Churn Dash block layout and combined it with a Cathedral Window technique of turned back bias in the corners. Stop after the first border for a more contemporary look or add the second border, finished with the curved look of the blocks in the cornerstones. The pattern contains fat quarter cutting diagrams and detailed graphics to make the steps easy to follow. It is suitable for a strong beginner with patience and attention to detail. Yardage and cutting for cover model are available on my website. Click Here. HhQ7387

Hedgehog Quilts Patterns for Quilts Gather With Friends (50" x 61")
Celebrate the spirit of Thanksgiving with this holiday quilt featuring the whimsical artwork of Sandy Gervais for Moda Fabrics. The pattern includes clear directions and lots of graphics to help ensure a successful project, including 1/4” seam allowance practice, measuring for well-behaved borders and a few tips for successful machine appliqué. It is easy enough for a strong beginner with basic machine applique skills.  Note: Cutting includes exact fabrics shown in cover sample. HhQ7390

Hedgehog Quilts Patterns for Quilts Hexagon Kaleidoscope from Stripes (40” x 40” cover model)
Choose a pre-printed novelty or wildlife stripe for this technique and watch the magic happen! You will get a variety of blocks and they all work together because you used one piece of fabric. This pattern includes directions to cut and assemble the small hexagon blocks, as well as directions to complete the cover quilt. Check out the Medium and Large template pages for cutting sizes to make the medium and large blocks. Check out my website gallery pages to see other layout ideas.  (coming soon) Why Paper-Piece these blocks? One of the trickiest parts of any kaleidoscope block is sewing the bias-edged pieces together accurately. My first test block for this pattern took me almost an hour of fussing and my points still didn’t line up. My first foundation test block took no more than 10 minutes and all the points were perfect.  If you are “kaleidoscopically” challenged like me, you’ll want to give this a try. HhQ7349

Crystal Blue (45" square)
Color placement is everything in this quilt and "Sing the Blues" fabrics, from Exclusively Quilters, give it that special glow. The center is made entirely of 4" (finished size) squares and half-square triangles. We used Thangles™ triangle papers to make the sewing quick and accurate. The directions in the package are terrific . . . no wasted fabric and no wasted time squaring up! If you use a different technique to create your half-square triangles, be sure to cut your pieces according to your chosen method. The pattern includes a 1/4" seam allowance practice and tips for working with cornerstone borders for a perfect fit. With patience and attention to detail, most strong beginners will enjoy this project. HhQ7360

Hedgehog Quilts Patterns for Quilts Gingerbread Lane (49" x 59")
This great lap-size quilt will be perfect for the holidays in colors of gingerbread, rosy red & green from Lynette Anderson's Winter Village line for RJR. The square-in-a-square cornerstone blocks create the center of the stars and the sashing blocks create the star points. The blended border is also created from square-in-a-square blocks and is easy to do with careful color placement. I recommend paper piecing the blocks for speed and accuracy and my cutting directions are listed for this technique. Rated as Intermediate, this design requires accurate scant 1/4” seams to match all the points. Pattern includes hints for managing bias edges, a 1/4" seam allowance practice exercise and tips for Well-behaved Borders. HhQ7350

Wolf Territory (56" x 63")
This versatile quilt will bring the wilderness into your room with Exclusively Quilters’ stunning Wolf Song panel and companion prints. Use it as a lap throw or wall hanging for maximum dramatic effect. It is easy to assemble into sections, framing all the blocks in the black paw print fabric. The combination of borders gives a three dimensional effect of looking into the forest through the black frame. I set out the binding fabric requirement separately so that you can choose to use green, brown or black, as you prefer. We used the all-over wolf print from this line as the backing, making the quilt beautiful on both sides. This pattern, with clear cutting instructions, a 1/4" seam allowance practice and hints to assure Well-behaved borders, would be an ideal project for a strong beginner. HhQ7356

Garden Brickwork Quilt (80" x 86")
Geared toward the confident, intermediate quilter, this design features a center medallion made with flying geese elements that come together to create a secondary pinwheel effect. The center is beautifully framed by a series of plain and pieced borders and finished with floral appliqué accents. HhQ7383

Paintbox Flowers  (51" x 66")
This quilt pops with bright details, white accents and the wavy stripes used as the sashing. They all work together to bring out the colors in the beautiful watercolor blooms and the bias-cut stripe binding brings the whole design together. As a quick project for the more experienced quilter, you can make this cheerful quilt for a gift for or just for yourself. As a skill-builder for a strong beginner, the pattern includes my 1/4” seam allowance practice and my guide to Well-behaved Borders.   HhQ7379

Rockin' Round the Blocks  (74" x 86")
Try this fun way to use a big print! We picked Ro Gregg's "Rock around the Clock" fabric from Paintbrush Studios as our alternate blocks, then pulled out her Global Brights fabric, used in the print, for the chain blocks. The black chain gives your eye a place to rest. We used the same big print on the back and bound it in black for a bright (and reversible) dorm or large snuggle quilt.  HhQ7365

Town Park (68½ x 68½")
Look closely and you'll see my favorite hedehogs in the flying geese blocks, as if they've made a hedgie path around my little park. I've laid out my "park" in sections to make it easier to keep the directional fabrics right side up. The soft and soothing colors from Moda (Bluebird Park) are anything but boring with the pop of yellow and dark teal.  HhQ7367

Lion Wild (60" x 74")  Update!
This large throw quilt features the king of beasts with his royal family from Exclusively Quilters by Classic Cottons. The blocks are large (19" finished) and the flying geese border is the perfect accent in the colors of the savannah. HhQ7368

Kitten Play (35" x 47½")
You don't have to be a cat lover to find these kittens irresistible. You'll find that this quikc quilt is easy enough to make one for yourself and one for a gift. Not for kittens only, use this pattern for any pre-printed panel with block designs which fit into a 9¾" square. Just choose companion fabrics or solids for the borders and cornerstones. HhQ7369

Double Matrix Quilt (49½" x 73½")
Star blocks surround three "Road to Oklahoma" blocks is this scrappy black and white quilt with a pop of yellow. It takes some organization to get the controlled scrappy look and we've created the cutting charts and block assembly to make it easier. All the blocks are assembled from squares...no special rulers needed. This pattern is rated as intermediate, only because the cutting and assembly charts can look confusing to a beginner. HhQ7371

Giggle & Sing Quilt (46" x 57")
Wish, dream, smile, grow, laugh, love. Aren't these great words to put on a little one's quilt? We used the adorable panel from Andover's "Giggle & Grow" line and added a few creative borders to make this quick little quilt. HhQ7372

Gypsy Mixed Flowers Quilt (64½" x 74")
This very easy appliqué quilt mimics curved piecing without the fuss. Exclusively Quilters "Gypsy" fabric line was used to create a fresh clean look. This is an update of my "Flowers for Cynthia" pattern, with more blocks, different borders and lots more tips and tricks. Great for classes or retreats, this pattern is rated for a strong beginner. HhQ7373

Truckin' Quilt (50½" x 61½") Update!
Get truckin' with these vintage pick-ups from Exclusively Quilters by Classic Cottons. We used a variation of the classic Attic Window block with a contemporary feel. No special ruler, Y-seams or paper piecing required! From toddler bed to man cave...your guy is going to love this quilt! HhQ7374

Go West! (60½" x 74½")
The "Wild, Wild West" fabric line from Exclusively Quilters was the inspiration for this simple quilt. We fussy-cut the blocks to highlight different areas of the print. Whether you need a quilt for a man-cave, sofa or bed topper; any large scale or scenic print can be the inspiration for your own creation. Fussy cutting directions included. HhQ7375

Uptown Dreams Lap Quilt (54” x 74”)
Although designed with contemporary fabrics in mind, this pattern works well with traditional, reproduction and even novelty fabrics! We used the main (or focus) fabric in the center of blocks and as the outer border. The companion fabrics work well together, bringing out the colors in the large print. This pattern is suitable for a strong beginner and great for classes. HhQ7357

St. Croix Tiles (74” x 88½”)
This pattern makes the most of a large scale print and its companion pieces. The large print anchors the quilt as the outside border and is repeated in the center blocks. The small print serves as the alternate blocks, softening the boldness of the large print. The sashing, bright little cornerstones and stripe border combine to keep the look interesting but not too busy. I like to use flat piping, also called a flange, to add a little pop of accent color. The piping (or flange) is stitched to the first border with the folds facing the center. The raw edges of the piping, or flange, are sandwiched between the first and second borders. You can leave the flange free or topstitch next to the fold to keep it flat. It adds a more textural element to the quilt than just using a simple 1/2” border. The stripe is repeated in the cornerstones and the binding repeats the accent color of the flat piping, pulling all the parts (and companion prints) together. HhQ7355

Square Wheels Quilt (66½” x 78½”)
Planned or scrappy, this fun pattern lets you create a look all your own. This versatile design looks great in contemporary, novelty, and traditional fabrics. Since the center blocks are cut at 10” (you’ll need 20), this pattern is layer cake friendly, too. The center patches are fused into place and then appliquéd to anchor them to the quilt blocks before constructing the top. This means no wrestling the whole quilt top through your machine. It is surprisingly quick to assemble, making it a great gift quilt. The pattern was written to accommodate directional fabrics, so no matter what you choose, you’ll have plenty of yardage. HhQ7358

Solar Flare Quilt (81” x 90”)  Skill Level - Intermediate
The construction of this beautiful, glowing quilt will require more patience and organization than skill. The pattern is broken down into 3 main sections: 9-patch center, pieced circle blocks for the 3rd border and finishing. The arcs in this design are paper-pieced. The circle block patterns are provided but you will need to be familiar with the paper piecing process. HhQ7359

Chained Quilt (66” x 76”)
This variation of a simple, traditional Irish Chain setting takes a little twist when we use the busy main print as the background, and chain through it in white. The larger bright red center squares help anchor the design and give your eye a place to rest. The white cornerstones and blue binding frame the design. The result is eye-catching yet orderly. It’s a great size for a large sofa throw or a bed topper to add a pop of color to your room. Think outside your usual box to see what other combinations you might find. HhQ7361

Folkheart Princess (40” x 60”)
Go bold, contemporary or traditional! Here is a pattern where you can show off any fabric line. Choose your favorite piece for the large blocks and outer borders. Then pick companion prints for the center of the framed squares and square-in-square blocks. You can tie the whole group together with blenders for the block frames, square-in-square block corners and stopping borders. This will give your eye a place to rest but still make the fabrics pop. From novelty prints like fruits and veggies, to florals to Superheros or northwoods themes, you can make this quilt into a great gift. HhQ7363

Chen Diamonds (74” x 90”)
Large diamonds seem the perfect shape to show off these lovely fabrics from RJR. The soft colors and patterns were drawn from the Chenonceau Chateau in the Loire Valley area of France. The large patches suit the use of flannel, avoiding bulk and maximizing the snuggle factor. HhQ7364

Get Your Kicks (72½” x 86½”)
The “Route 66” fabric line from Exclusively Quilters was the inspiration for this simple quilt with lots of border action. The pattern includes my “Well-behaved Borders” and “Accurate 1/4” Seam” sections to sharpen your skills and help make your project a success. You’ll get plenty of border practice and learn to bring a pop of color between borders with Flat Piping. This is repeated between the third and fourth borders, too, but narrower, creating the look of a 1/4” border. Whether you need a quilt for a man-cave, sofa or bed topper, any large-scale or scenic print can be the inspiration for your own creation. HhQ7366

Tumblers (56” x 69½”)
This versatile design looks great in contemporary, novelty, traditional and even reproduction fabrics. High contrast between block frames and sashing gives the quilt a more graphic or contemporary look, while the softer colors of traditional and reproduction fabrics give it a more blended look. The thimble-shaped tumblers are fused into place and then appliqued to anchor them to the quilt blocks before constructing the top. This means no wrestling the whole quilt through your machine. The basic fabric requirements are given on the pattern cover, with other options found on the cutting page including tips for choosing fabrics for a scrappy version. HhQ7342

Blessings (64” x 78”)
Make this deceptively simple lap quilt and celebrate your favorite blessings with 16" Album Star blocks.
The "Old World Christmas" line by Thimbleberries for RJR Fabrics provided the large medallions for the alternate blocks and the wonderful stripe for the top and bottom panels of the cover quilt. Lynette Jensen’s rich reds and greens are perfect for the holidays as well as for year round use.
This versatile pattern also works beautifully with fat quarters for the alternate blocks. Choose a companion print for the top and bottom panels and coordinating prints for the star blocks and borders. Embroider words of your choice by hand or machine and make this quilt a reflection of your creativity. HhQ7344

Spool Toss Quilt (69½” x 83½”)
In my version of the traditional spool block quilt there’s no need to match any points. The rectangular blocks are sewn together and the spool caps are appliqued into place with a narrow zig-zag or blanket stitch before the top is assembled. The spools are in two different shapes (skinny & chubby) and appear to float on the background. Planned or scrappy this pattern contains both options, including tips on choosing scraps without losing the design. The black and tan variation is further inspiration. HhQ7347

“Nan’s Harvest” Lap Throw(52” x 70”)
Thimbleberries has done it again! The warm rich colors and the large scale blocks in their “Autumn Sunset” line combine beautifully in this deceptively easy-to-make lap quilt. Each block is surrounded by a narrow folded accent border, bringing the colors to life. I split one leaf block to offset the center row for an unexpected layout which is still nicely balanced. Simple sashing in a deep, earthy brown and a single border in rich, leafy green complete the Autumn Harvest look. I bound my quilt with the same deep brown of the sashing to pull it all together. HhQ7339

“Snowy Christmas Quilt(62”x 73½”) and Table Runner (22” x 53½”)
This quilt and table runner were inspired by another of my vintage quilt tops. I simplified the block (paper piecing makes them much easier to handle) and used non-traditional Christmas colors for a more contemporary look that will last past the holidays. The pieces are pre-cut to allow for chain piecing the blocks to save time. Please note: This is a paper piecing pattern. The block patterns are provided but you will need to be familiar with paper piecing techniques. HhQ7341

The Quillow (40" x 56")
This quick and easy lap quilt is a variation of an old favorite. The pocket modification makes it a breeze to fold your quilt into a soft pillow. Your quilt top can be plain or fancy. Piece any lap size quilt top (40" x 60") or let your fabric be your design. The color and design possibilities are almost endless. This quilt has been extensively tested by family and friends. Great for travel or home use...we even have seasonal favorites to rotate throughout the year. These quilts make fantastic and practical gifts. But beware: once you give one for a gift... everyone on your list is going to want one, too! #HhQ7302

Quillow, Too(53” x 66”)
This larger version of my original “Quillow” is a still a quick and easy variation of an old favorite. We added identical borders to the front and back to make it larger for better coverage. The pocket modification makes it a breeze to fold your quilt into a soft pillow. Super-easy to kit, choose one non-directional fabric for the inner borders of the front and back and another for the outer borders and you’ll have very little waste. This great snuggle quilt is quick-turned and tied, making it a speedy project and ideal for classes. These quilts make fantastic and practical gifts, ideal for everyone on your list! HhQ 7333

“Pat’s Blooms” Lap Throw(54” x 72 3/4”)
The gorgeous panel from Thimbleberries fabric line, “In Full Bloom”, provides the drama for this simple quilt. I split one bloom to offset the center row for an unexpected layout that is still nicely balanced. The soft green border frames the entire quilt. Then I added two narrow folded accent borders before the binding to emphasize the gold in each flower and repeat the deep burgundy of the sashing. HhQ 7335

"“Fireside Christmas Quilt & Tree Skirt" Update! (69” x 86” Lap Quilt and 42” Tree Skirt)
Snuggle up next to the fire with this generous sized lap quilt. Make the matching tree skirt for an elegant finishing touch. While this is not a beginner-friendly project, careful cutting and attention to detail will make this quilt and tree skirt go together beautifully. Clear instructions and great graphics will guide you every step of the way. * Instructions are available to increase the size from 42” to 54” #HhQ7330

“Links to the Past" (53½” x 62” Quilt)
Make this sweet little reproduction quilt as scrappy as Grandma did. I prefer organized scrappy and will share my formula (found on the back of the pattern). Please note: This is a paper piecing pattern. The block patterns are provided but you will need to be familiar with paper piecing technique.
*Note to shop owners: A kit checklist is available for this pattern. #HhQ7331

“Double Helix" (54” x 67½” Quilt)
Here is a great way to showcase a stunning large print or floral fabric. Pull four accent colors for the blocks right out of the design of the fabric. A simple quarter turn of every other block makes the columns seem to spiral up to the top of the quilt. Careful placement of the colors in the border gives a shadow box effect. While this quilt is not difficult to make, you’ll need an accurate, scant 1/4” seam to keep all your points lined up. You’ll find a seam allowance practice suggestion inside the pattern. #HhQ7332

Hedgehog QuiltsFlowers for Cynthia (50” x 59” Lap Quilt)
This easy appliqué lap quilt mimics curved piecing without the fuss. Charming in its simplicity, you can put the top together in a day or two. It is so versatile; going from primitive to traditional to batik; each fabric combination will give this quilt a new personality. #HhQ7327

Mountain View QuiltMountain View QuiltMountain View Quilt Lap (59” x 66”) or Queen (94” x 105”)
With offset triangle rows (reducing the number of matching points) this design is a great way to build skills with triangles. Ideal for confident beginners, this pattern also teaches proper measuring techniques to get well-behaved borders every time. Complete cutting instructions are included for both quilts, combining fat quarters, jelly rolls and yardage. #HhQ7325

Terry's Flower Bed QuiltTerry’s Flower Bed 97” x 113” Queen Size Quilt Update!
When Benartex presented the Flower Show II fabrics, I knew I had found my perfect garden. No weeding, watering or maintenance; just spectacular blooms. Gather up your favorite flowers for any season and create your own perfect flower bed. Additional layouts and the fabric requirements are included for Twin, Full or King size. #HhQ7326

Road Trip Memories Quilt (56"x 80")
Quilters buy fabric wherever they go! Gather up those pieces you brought home from your trip and create a lasting memory. You will need 2 yards of a scenic piece that reminds you of your travels. There are so many landscape scenes and themes available from most of the major fabric companies that you’ll have lots to choose from!. This pattern shows you how to “fussy cut” squares from your focus fabric or you can add some of your photos printed on fabric. Fabric requirements are given for each element in the quilt. #HhQ7323

Brick by Brick Lap Warmer (60” x 72”)
Here is a Fat Quarter Friendly quilt that is great for beginners and yet fun, quick and easy for the more experienced quilter. Choose the fabrics, colors and textures to suit your fancy. My choice of Woolies flannels by Maywood Studios gives me the look of wool with the convenience of cotton. Also pictured is the more contemporary looking version made from Kaffe Fasset’s shot cottons by Westminster Fabrics. This quilt makes a great gift for anyone; man, woman or child! #HhQ7324

Tuesday Garden Club Quilt(56" x 76")  Update!
Benartex created the Flower Show line and I used it to create my own year-round garden. I nestled my flowers into my "garden" by using the greenery from the same line for the setting triangles. Choose a dark and light value of the same color to make the trellis for the most realistic look. Strip piecing and the use of Thangles simplifies the construction. Watch the placement of your dark and light pieces, though...just follow the layout in the pattern for your own "Blue Ribbon" quilt. #HhQ7319

Garden Trellis Florals (Large Lap: 64" x 78"   Small Lap: 52" x 66")
If you are looking to use one of the beautiful florals on the market today, this is a great way to do it. You don't have to wait until your free motion quilting skills improve or pay a professional to do the job for you. Simple is best, so let the fabric be the focus, add 6” wide borders, get out your walking foot and off you go. This quilt would make an impressive gift! Instructions are included for 2 different size quilts; the larger lap size uses 54” wide fabric and the smaller lap size uses 44” wide fabric.
I’ve made a number of these quilts for family and friends who are going through chemo and radiation therapy. Two common miseries (being cold and feeling weak) are addressed in this quilt. When I use a single piece of fabric for the center, I eliminate the weight without sacrificing the warm, snuggly parts. I add one wide border to minimize the piecing. I always use Hobb’s Heirloom (80-20) batting to give the quilt a great drape and back it with a lightweight, silky plaid. The “trellis” quilting pattern also contributes to the “snuggle factor” by avoiding any stiffness caused by dense quilting.< It has become my own version of a “prayer shawl. #HhQ7316

Quick Snuggle Quilt(65" x 73")
If you are looking for a manageable quilt, this is the one. Simple is best, so let the fabric be the focus and make this wonderful snuggly lap quilt with chenilled seams. Each block is quilted separately and then sewn together with the raggedy technique. No layering or basting big, hard to manage pieces and no last minute struggles to get it quilted. In just a few evenings and a weekend or two, you will have a gift quilt ready to sign and wrap!  #HhQ7314

Raggedy Trees (53" x 68")
Raggedy Trees is a pattern that combines two very popular raw-edge techniques, the bulls-eye method of concentric sizes and the raw edge seam - quilt as you go method.  #HhQ7305

Fabric Friends (49" x 69")
This project is a great way to use printed panels up to 12". The pieced block is a traditional one, sometimes called Aunt Sulkey's Choice. I used the panel blocks as alternate blocks. I chose the rest of the fabrics from the same designer line. Color choices made easy by using companion fabrics. . . "Fabric Friends"! While this design is not difficult, careful and attentive sewing will help you get the desired results. . . a beautiful quilt! #HhQ7301

Schoolgirl's Puzzle
Fabric and color selection seem to be a scary lesson for newer quilters. This quilt is the 2nd in my "Fabric Friends" series which makes fabric choices simple by selecting all the parts from one fabric line, such as Moda's "Harvest Home" or "Seaside Rose". No need to worry about picking the right tones or shades. . . they are all right there. The more experienced quilter will enjoy playing with value and scale to create different variations. #HhQ7311

Hedgehog QuiltsSun & Shade Lap Quilt (58” x 72”)
We used Amy Butler’s Eternal Sunshine fabric line to create this bright vertical row quilt. The pattern is great for a strong beginner but watch out for the bias edges! The use of spray sizing or starch before cutting will make the bias more manageable. The pattern contains clear graphics and a practice exercise to create the perfect, scant 1/4” seam. HhQ7430

Hedgehog QuiltsBackstage Quilt (48” x 60”)
“Fibs and Fables” is the title of this wonderful fabric line by Anna Maria Horner for Free Spirit Fabrics. It brings back memories of my days in our Community Theater, complete with the cobwebs in the corner of the high ceilings. It was also the inspiration for the Spider Web blocks in this lap quilt.

Hedgehog QuiltsBackstage Block Pillow (20” x 20”)
We took the Spider Web block from our “Backstage Quilt” and created a coordinating pillow. The paper-piecing template is included so you won’t need a special ruler for this project.

Hedgehog QuiltsBackstage Strip Pillow (16” x 16”)
We continued the strip-pieced look of our “Backstage Quilt” and created this simple coordinating pillow.

Hedgehog QuiltsMorning Mist Twin Quilt (79” x 100”)
We loved the large oriental print at the centerpiece of this line by Nell Whatmore for Free Spirit Fabrics. So we featured it in 15” blocks! We balanced the on-point design with her wonderful trees and used the green lattice print to pull everything together. We added borders, repeating the same three fabrics and then inserted a bright pink binding flange to add that vital pop of color. The flange goes on after quilting and right before the binding to add the final bit of texture.

Hedgehog QuiltsMorning Mist Round One Pillow (16” x 16”) Update!
Make this cheerful pillow to match your Morning Mist Quilt or just as a pop of color in your room. Nell Whatmore’s Oriental fabrics play well with the bright white accents.

Hedgehog QuiltsMorning Mist Around Again Pillow (20” x 20”)
We created this pillow as a companion to the Morning Mist quilt and Round One Pillow or as a stand-alone pillow, perfect for a bed or chair.

Hedgehog QuiltsRain Chain Quilt (59” x 74”)
This vertical row quilt is a great way to showcase the prints in Jennifer Paganelli’s “Nostalgia” line for Free Spirit Fabrics. We featured the Cameo Floral in the pieced blocks, centered the design of the Medallion Floral for the middle row and flanked the columns with the Large Floral. The fussy-cut diamond points add a flash of color at the edges of the quilt.
We chose the fuchsia and cornmeal colors to accent the florals in the blocks. A simple quarter turn of every other block makes the columns seem to spiral down the quilt like a sparkling garden rain chain.

Hedgehog QuiltsRain Chain Pillow (16” x 16”)
We chose the soft blue & white medallion print to accent one of our favorite florals from Jennifer Paganelli’s “Nostalgia” line for Free Spirit Fabrics for this lovely pillow, perfect for a bed or chair.
Our step -by-step instructions will help you create this simple pillow, using a larger version of the block we used in the Rain Chain Quilt.

Hedgehog QuiltsDesert Diamond Pillow (20” x 20”)
We love the wonderful “Feather” fabric line by Zandra Rhodes for Free Spirit Fabrics. It inspired us to use diamonds  with lots of open space for quilting. Quilt this pillow top by machine or by hand, using a big-stitch technique with perle cotton.

Hedgehog QuiltsOhh My! Lap Quilt (52” x 60”)
“Ohh, My” was my first reaction when I saw the “Memories of Mondrian” quilt in the Thangles™ booth at Quilt Market. The creators of Thangles™, MB and Patrick Hayes graciously allowed me to re-create my own version of that quilt using these beautiful fabrics by Dena Designs for Free Spirit. We upped the graphic impact by the use of two colors with white and made the blocks much larger than the original quilt. This allows lots of open space for contemporary quilting.
We use the same T-Log construction; it speeds up construction, manages the bias edges and just works great!

Hedgehog QuiltsChevron Rows Pillow (20” x 20”)
Use triangles to assemble this bright pillow, accented with the coordinating prints from Dena Designs “Butterfly Garden” for Free Spirit Fabrics.

Hedgehog QuiltsButterfly Patch Pillow (16” x 16”)
We added a narrow ruffle to frame this wildflower patch pillow, using Butterfly Garden fabrics by Dena Designs for Free Spirit Fabrics.

Hedgehog QuiltsSeaside Inn Quilt (52” x 62”)
Relax with the colors of sea and sand when you make this lovely quilt featuring Atrium fabrics by Joel Dewberry for Westminster Fabrics. The blocks are a modified log cabin with beautiful florals featured in the center.

Seaside Inn Small Toss Pillow (16” x 16”)
Add the vibrant colors of sea and sand to your room when you make this small toss pillow featuring Atrium fabrics by Joel Dewberry for Westminster Fabrics. The block is a modified log cabin with a beautiful floral featured in the center.

Seaside Inn Pillow on Point (20” x 20”)
Up your decorating game when you turn a great block on point to make a larger statement with this 20” pillow featuring Atrium fabrics by Joel Dewberry for Westminster Fabrics. The block is a modified log cabin with a beautiful floral featured in the center. The white corners make the colors pop. The matching outer border and binding make a great frame for the pillow top.

Mountain Retreat Quilt (72” x 92”)
We created this striking quilt design specifically to feature this wonderful new fabric line from Snow Leopard for Free Spirit Fabrics. Based around the large prints called “Temple Brocade”, “Sabu” and “Cloud Scrolls”, it’s easy to see where we got the inspiration for the name of the quilt. We added the accents to balance the design. Multiple borders echo the main prints in the quilt. The open areas of the setting triangles and alternate blocks allow special quilting to shine.

Mountain Retreat Pieced Block Pillow (16” x 16”)
We emphasized the wonderful woodear print from this line by creating a large, graphic T-block for this pillow. The narrow border and matching binding frame the block perfectly.

Mountain Retreat Diagonal Pillow (20” x 20”)
We used just four fabrics to make this large, soft pillow to complement any room.  We kept it simple to let the fabric create the mood. The front and back of the pillow are sewn right sides together and then turned, eliminating the need for binding.

Packed Flower Patch Pillow (16” x 16”) Dress up your room with the bright colors we have come to expect from Kaffe Fasset for Westminster/Rowan fabrics. We started with his fabulous chrysanthemums, added pansies to the corners and framed it with a bright border.

Cross Patch Pillow (20” x 20”) Combine some of the bright colors we have come to expect from Kaffe Fasset for Westminster/Rowan fabrics for the top of this 20” pillow. We featured his new bright mod paisley, and added pansies, a plaid, and a stripe to the mix. The pale blue calms everything down a bit but then we bound it with the Red/Purple print for a strong finish.

Hedgehog Quilts Exclusive DesignsSpinning Tops Quilt (56” x 70”) Update!

Our stitch and flip method of foundation piecing makes short work of assembling the kaleidoscope blocks and controlling the bias edges.  The blocks are squared out, eliminating the need for any set-in seams.
Why Paper-Piece these blocks? One of the trickiest parts of any kaleidoscope block is sewing the bias-edged pieces together accurately. My first test block for this pattern took me almost an hour of fussing and my points still didn’t line up. My first foundation test block took no more than 10 minutes and all the points were perfect.  If you are “kaleidoscopically” challenged like me, you’ll want to give this method a try.

Color Mosaic Pillow (20” x 20”)

You can get a great combination when you change out the position of color and background in identical blocks, creating a positive/negative effect.
Turn any quilt block into a pillow with these step -by-step instructions. We used April Cornell’s wonderful Music line for Westminster Fabric to create this 20” pillow, perfect for a bed or chair. The front of the pillow is layered and quilted, using muslin and batting. The back is made up of two overlapping (unquilted) pieces so that the cover can be removed for laundering.
